ARB Touring awning on a Defender

Yes, of course we have an awning. In my opinion a real overlander or camping lover can't do without a good awning. They provide shade in the summer and shelter you from the rain when the weather takes a turn for the worst. I decided to buy an ARB Touring 2500x2500, the biggest one they had. The size gives us a nice area to relax, no matter what the weather is like.

Mounting the awning

In most cases the awning is secured to the roofrack with brackets that fit around the horizontal beams. In my case they had to be secured on the vertical poles of the roofrack, otherwise they would be in the way when opening the rooftent. So it was time to come up with a solution!

In the end the solution was pretty straight forward. We just had to drill holes in a few galvanized plates where the bolts would go through. When tightning up the nuts they would bent the plate a bit, securing it in place. But to make sure the awning won't drop down we also attached two vertical brackets, hooking it up to the horizontal beam.
